de0xyribonucleic: There's actually a way to get stamps for slightly below face value
de0xyribonucleic: http://hgitner.com/postage.html
de0xyribonucleic: I'm sooo going to get a piece of that this summer
de0xyribonucleic: Random old unpopular stamps
de0xyribonucleic: Your letters would definitely get a lot more interesting
de0xyribonucleic: I mean, letters you would receive
de0xyribonucleic: Stamps about stuff nobody cares about, I suppose
de0xyribonucleic: Because they're apparently worth more as postage than as collectibles
de0xyribonucleic: Though I should tell you about something I did today
de0xyribonucleic: I've resolved to do something new every day
de0xyribonucleic: I went to the stamp vending machine in the student center and pumped coins into it until I got a chain of 1c stamps that reached all the way down to the floor
de0xyribonucleic: It ended up being 70; I purchased them in increments of 10
de0xyribonucleic: See, this is my equivalent of the Pringles can-sized blunt
de0xyribonucleic: Just, decadent indulgence in... low denomination stamps
de0xyribonucleic: Stationery and office products were my favorite toys as a child
de0xyribonucleic: Like, not so much construction paper and felt and markers as the Bic four-color ballpoint and accordion-fold sticky notes
de0xyribonucleic: In second grade I talked the office into letting me borrow their postage meter to run a 'post office' in class, printing authentic "0.00" postage markings on envelopes people wrote to other people in class
de0xyribonucleic: (This is the point in the story where people ask "Why didn't people pick up on the warning signs earlier?")
de0xyribonucleic: It wasn't until high school that I had a philosophical turnabout and I stopped fantasizing about owning my own postal meter, because despite the convenience everything coming out looks pretty boring and never changes, whereas with stamps it's always an aesthetic joyride as new stamps are released and certain combinations of denominations create interesting stamp mosaics, as you've seen
de0xyribonucleic: Do you have any burning questions about the postal system at the moment?
de0xyribonucleic: I'm sure everyone does
de0xyribonucleic: At some point in their lives
de0xyribonucleic: Maybe this is your point
de0xyribonucleic: The new 41c stamped envelopes have silhouettes of horses
de0xyribonucleic: Apparently some girls love horses
de0xyribonucleic: Maybe this will get them into mailing things
de0xyribonucleic: Maybe then I'll have a friend
de0xyribonucleic: *dejected*
de0xyribonucleic: (jk XO)
de0xyribonucleic: But still
